RAMONAS, CRAWFORD, MARRO NAMED ALL-NECC
The Regis College women’s basketball team placed three players on the All-New England Collegiate Conference Teams, it was announced by the NECC this afternoon. Sophomore Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) was named to the All-NECC First Team, while senior Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) was honored on the All-NECC Second Team. Freshman Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) was named to the league’s Honorable Mention Team.
WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's basketball team placed three players on the All-New England Collegiate Conference Teams, it was announced by the NECC this afternoon. Sophomore Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) was named to the All-NECC First Team, while senior Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) was honored on the All-NECC Second Team. Freshman Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) was named to the league's Honorable Mention Team.
Sophomore forward Claire Ramonas helped lead the Pride (21-5) to a perfect 18-0 mark in the NECC by averaging 14.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.5 steals per game this season. Ramonas led the NECC in field goal percentage and is third nationally shooting 57.9% from the field. The second-year player was named the conference's Player of the Week back on February 13th after leading the Pride to a perfect 3-0 mark on the week and averaging 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals per game during the week.
Senior Stephanie Crawford had a strong final campaign as the guard became the 12th member of the Regis College 1,000 point club back on December 10th. That week Crawford was named the NECC Player of the Week for leading the Pride to a pair of conference victories. This season, Crawford was second on the team in scoring at 11 points per game and led the NECC in free throw percentage at 88.2% (90-of-102). Crawford also led the team in assists per game (3.1 apg) and was second in steals at two swipes per game.
Rounding out the All-NECC selections is freshman Emilee Marro, who finished her freshman campaign averaging 10 points, averaging 10 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. The rookie started in every game of her first campaign and was named to New England Women's Basketball Coaches Association Honor Roll back on January 23rd after leading the Pride to a perfect 3-0 week in conference games.
For the second consecutive season, Daniel Webster senior forward Alycia Gervais was honored as the 2011-12 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Womens' Basketball Player of the Year. Elms' Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) was named the league's Rookie of the Year and Elms coach Laura Habacker was the conference's top coach. Wheelock College was awarded the conference's Team Sportsmanship Award.
