REGIS GRABS FOURTH SEED IN UPCOMING NECC PLAYOFFS
WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College tennis team won three of its final four matches to grab the fourth seed in the upcoming NECC playoffs that begin on Wednesday afternoon. The Pride (5-8, 5-5 NECC) will travel to Leicester, Mass. to take on Becker College (14-1, 9-0 NECC) in a 2:00 p.m. match.
Second-seed Bay Path College (10-2, 7-1 NECC) will host third-seed Lesley University (5-6, 5-5 NECC) in the other semifinal on Wednesday at 2:30 pm.
Becker posted a 2-0 mark against the Pride this season with an 8-1 victory on September 17th and a 9-0 win on October 5th. Maryse Emungu (South Burlington, Vt.) grabbed the lone point for the Pride this season in the team's meeting in September as the sophomore defeated Becker's Courtney Johnson by a score of 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6). In the team's second meeting, newcomer Elora Granados (Chillicothe, Texas) nearly defeated Megan Nessen in number one singles, but came up short in the third set, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.
The semifinal winners will meet at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, October 22nd. Game times are tenative. Teams are seeded on based on predetermined tiebreakers.
