GOMES, GOLD NAMED ALL-NECC SECOND TEAM; ENDARA HONORABLE MENTION
WESTON, Mass. – Three members of the Regis College women's volleyball team were named to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) All-Conference Teams, it was announced this afternoon by the conference offices. Senior Domingas Gomes (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) were named to the All-NECC Second Team, while sophomore Julie Endara (Boca Raton, Fla.) was named to the Honorable Mention Team. NECC All-Conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
The Pride finished their season with a 9-19 mark and a bid as the No. 6 seed into the NECC postseason. Regis fell to No. 2 Bay Path College, 3-2, in the opening round of the tournament.
Libero Sara Gold was a defensive force for the Pride this season. Gold led the NECC in digs with 406 while finishing second in digs per set at 4.19 d/s. Gold also led the team in service aces with 51 while playing in 97 sets this season. This is the second All-Conference honor for Gold after being named to the All-CCC Honorable Mention Team in 2010.
Joining Sara Gold on the All-NECC Second Team was senior co-captain Domingas Gomes. Gomes finished second on the team with 154 kills and was third on the team in aces (36). The outside hitter also helped out defensively as Gomes finished third on the team in digs with 229 and had 19 total blocks in 2011.
Julie Endara was named to the Honorable Mention Team after posting a team-leading 178 kills and finishing second on the team with 232 digs, both numbers being ranked inside the top-20 in the NECC. Endara finished second on the team with 41 service aces and had eight blocks this season.
Southern Vermont swept a majority of the awards en route to securing the 2011 NECC Championship. Outside hitter Jessica Alvarez was named the NECC Player of the Year, while libero Joanna Hogue was named the conference Defensive Player of the Year. SVC head coach Josh Stokes was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Mountaineers to a 31-2 record after last year going 1-20. Newbury's Syndey Fish was named the NECC Rookie of the Year while Bay Path was given the league's Sportsmanship Award.
