BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Hope Benjamin (Rochester, Mass.) went 4-for-5 on the day with a pair of home runs, five runs scored, and 10 RBI, while junior Kendra Abram (Acushnet, Mass.) and freshman Sarah Porteus (South Wellfleet, Mass.) each picked up wins in the circle as the Regis College softball team upped its winning streak to three games with a sweep of Wentworth, 9-4, and 20-4.

Benjamin got things started for the Pride in the top of the first inning as she blasted a two-run home run to left field, which also scored Porteus, who opened the game with a walk.

The Leopards cut the deficit in half in the fourth inning when senior Bridget Souza (Medford, Mass.) ground out, which scored classmate Jen Giudice (Central Valley, N.Y.).  Giudice had led off the inning with a single, went to second on a freshman Amanda O’Neil (Revere, Mass.) single, and moved to third on a wild pitch.

Giudice led off the sixth inning with a ground-rule double to center and went to third on an O’Neill single.  Both players would score when senior Lizz Harvey’s (McConnelsburg, Pa.) ninth home run of the season gave Wentworth a 4-2 lead.

Regis rallied from two runs down in the top of the seventh inning with a seven-run inning, with sophomore Kara Donovan’s (Woburn, Mass.) RBI single cutting the lead to 4-3 and Benjamin’s second homer of the day, a three-run shot, giving the visitors a 6-4 lead.  A bases loaded walk by senior Amanda Carlson (Ayer, Mass.) upped the lead to 7-4 before Porteus helped her cause with a two-run single to make it a 9-4 game.  Wentworth had runners on second and third with two outs, but Porteus induced a popup to end the game.

Porteus picked up the win, allowing four runs on eight hits, while walking just one and striking out six.  Benjamin was 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, two home runs and five RBI.  Carlson had a two-hit game while Porteus drove in three.

Freshman Stephanie MacLeay (Ashley Falls, Mass.) took the loss, allowing nine runs (five earned) on nine hits and six strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work.  Giudice was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, O’Neil had a pair of hits, and Harvey drove in three runs.

Game two was all Regis, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings and adding two more in the third.  Sophomore Alissa Michaud (Beverly, Mass.) had a two-run single in the first, Benjamin had a two-run single in the second and also drew a bases-loaded walk in the third.

In the fourth inning the Pride tacked on three more runs to make it an 11-0 game when Carlson had an RBI triple and Porteus and Abram each had RBI singles.

The fifth inning saw the Pride send 15 batters to the plate, scoring nine times with Michaud and Benjamin each picking up two RBI.

Wentworth scored three times in the last of the fifth inning, thanks in part to three Regis errors.

Porteus picked up her first win of the season, allowing four unearned runs on three hits.  She did not walk a batter and struck out four.  She was also 3-for-4 with three runs scored at the plate, while Michaud (3-for-4, two runs scored, four RBI), Benjamin (2-for-3, three runs scored, five RBI), and Carlson (2-for-3, two runs scored) also had multiple-hit games.
