2011 NECC CHAMPIONSHIP BANNER UNVEILED
The Regis College field hockey team was recognized at halftime of the men's basketball game against Newbury College on Wednesday evening for winning the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship for the 2011-2012 season.
WESTON, Mass. – On Wednesday evening, the Regis College field hockey team was recognized for winning the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship for the 2011-2012 season at halftime of the men's basketball game against Newbury College. The brief ceremony was highlighted by the unveiling of an NECC Championship banner, which now hangs above Higgins Court.
The 2011-2012 team finished with an 8-10 overall record, collecting the most wins in a season since 2004. The Pride also earned their first postseason berth since 2004 and recorded their first postseason win since 2003 with a 1-0 victory over Becker College in the NECC Semifinals.
Under the leadership of co-captains Torie Pappas (Niantic, Conn.) and Meghan Robohm (Easton, Mass.) and interim head coach Steph Magni, the Pride won seven of their last eight games en route to a 3-1 victory over Anna Maria College in the NECC Finals. The win captured the first NECC Championship of any sport for Regis College, wh
o joined the conference in the fall of 2011.
The Pride amassed an impressive 36 goals over the course of the season and had six players named All-Conference, including Robohm (First Team), Pappas (First Team), Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.) (First Team), Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.) (First Team), Kymberly Kerr (Uxbridge, Mass.) (Honorable Mention), and Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.) (Honorable Mention).
Robohm, Genga, Kerr, and Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass.) were also named to the NECC All-Tournament team, while Burns captured 2011 NECC Tournament MVP honors. Burns assisted on O'Toole's winning goal in the Semifinals to push the Pride into the Championship game.
