SIX REGIS PLAYERS NAMED TO ALL-NECC TEAMS
Six members of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Champion Regis College field hockey team were named to the conference’s All-NECC Teams, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league office. Senior co-captains Meghan Robohm (Easton, Mass.) and Victoria Pappas (Niantic, Conn.) were joined on the All-NECC First Team by Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.) and Christine O’Toole (Wareham, Mass.). Classmates Kymberly Kerr (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.) were named to the Honorable Mention Team.
WESTON, Mass. – Six members of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Champion Regis College field hockey team were named to the conference's All-NECC Teams, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league office. Senior co-captains Meghan Robohm (Easton, Mass.) and Victoria Pappas (Niantic, Conn.) were joined on the All-NECC First Team by Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.) and Christine O'Toole (Wareham, Mass.). Classmates Kymberly Kerr (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.) were named to the Honorable Mention Team.
The Pride wrapped up its 2011 campaign with an 8-10 mark and the NECC Championship. NECC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.
Senior Meghan Robohm scored a pair of goals this season while also tying for the team-lead with six assists and had a defensive save. Fellow senior Victoria Pappas made five defensive saves this year while playing a vital role in the Pride's defense. The duo leaves the field hockey program with Robohm having played in 65 career games and Pappas playing in 63 games while combining for nine goals, 13 assists and 17 defensive saves.
Joining them on the All-NECC First Team was Cheyenne Genga and Christine O'Toole. Genga tied for the team-lead in both goals (9) and assists (6) while leading the Pride with 24 points. Genga netted a pair of game-winning-goals this season, including the tally that propelled the Pride to the NECC Championship in a 3-1 win over Anna Maria. Christine O'Toole also had a strong offensive campaign as the sophomore had eight goals and four assists in 2011. O'Toole scored the eventual game-winner as the Pride defeated Becker College, 1-0, in the NECC Semifinals.
Kymberly Kerr and Morgan Mitchell were both named to the NECC Honorable Mention Team. Kerr made six defensive saves this season while Morgan Mitchell backstopped the Pride to a 6-7 mark when she was in goal. Mitchell posted four shutouts in 2011 while making 107 saves and allowing 41 goals (3.13 GAA) in 13 games played.
Other awards included Wheelock College's Despina Savvoulides being chosen by the league's coaches as the 2011 NECC Field Hockey Player of the Year. Elms junior Alexandra Bonavita was named the conference's top goalkeeper while Anna Maria's Katherine Bant was honored as the 2011 NECC Rookie of the Year. The AMCATS were also awarded the Team Sportsmanship Award while its coach, Sharon Zenevitch, was named the Coach of the Year.
