UTICA, N.Y. -- The men's volleyball team was on the road this weekend taking on the Hawks of Hatwick College and the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic in a non-conference tri-match. The Pride would split the day moving their record to 6-5 overall without yet playing a conference game.
The Pride were led by Adam Bonica, who recorded 19 kills on the day. Jalen Watt added 17 kills, with Evan Shank facilitating the offense with 55 assists across the two matches.
Regis vs. Hartiwick
Regis jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished control, hitting .323 in the opening set. Brandon Valdes and John Nangle led the offense with consistent finishes at the net as the Pride pulled away late to take the set, 25–21.
The second set proved to be the most competitive, with six tie scores and two lead changes. Hartwick pushed Regis into extra points behind extended rallies, but Regis remained composed. Key kills from Valdes and Adam Bonica helped the Pride close out the set, 30–28, and take a commanding 2–0 match lead.
With momentum on their side, Regis delivered its strongest performance of the match in the final set, hitting .423. The Pride built an early cushion and dominated defensively, limiting Hartwick to just five kills. Regis cruised to a 25–15 win to complete the sweep.
Regis vs. SUNY Poly
The opening set was tightly contested from start to finish, featuring multiple ties and lead changes. Regis stayed toe-to-toe with Poly through extended rallies, using kills from Adam Bonica and Brandon Valdes to keep the score even late. With the set tied at 24, the Wildcats capitalized on late points to edge out a 26–24 win and take the early momentum.
SUNY Poly began to find its rhythm in the second set, building a small lead midway through the frame. Regis attempted to rally behind efficient swings from Bonica and John Nangle, but the Wildcats maintained control with consistent offense and strong serving. The Wildcats closed the set on a late run to take it 25–20 and move ahead 2–0.
The Wildcats carried that late-run momentum into the third set, jumping out to an early advantage and never looking back. Regis continued to battle, with Jalen Watt contributing offense off the bench, but SUNY Poly's attack proved difficult to slow. The Wildcats hit efficiently down the stretch and closed out the match with a 25–14 victory.
