Thuotte and Mcclain Lead Pride to Third Place Finish at GNAC Championships, Earn Major Conference Honors
STANDISH, Maine -- The Regis College Pride men's track and field team collected multiple podium finishes oon day two of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Outdoor Championships and finished third overall with 125 points at Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
Saint Joseph's College of Maine claimed the team title with 233 points, followed by Emmanuel College in second with 145. Regis placed third with 125 points, while Lasell University finished fourth with 98 and Colby-Sawyer College rounded out the standings in fifth with 41.
The Pride were highlighted by the duo of Justin Thuotte and Brock Mcclain, whose standout performances across the weekend earned them GNAC Field Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, respectively. For Thuotte, it marks an incredible fourth time earning Field Athlete of the Year recognition, while Mcclain captured his first major collegiate award and became the first member of the program to earn Rookie of the Year honors since Thuotte did so in 2023.
Inside the Numbers
- The Regis College throws squad showed its dominance, sweeping the shot put podium behind a tight three-way finish. Justin Thuotte led the way with a mark of 12.13 meters, followed closely by Bryan Abru (12.08m) and Brock Mcclain (12.07m), with both Thuotte and Mcclain recording personal bests.
- In the hammer throw, Ryan Sweeney was crowned GNAC champion with a commanding 40.27-meter effort, while Thuotte followed in second at 36.18 meters. Griffin McGahan and Ed Power also added valuable points with fourth (35.45m) and fifth (35.25m) place finishes, respectively. Sweeney, McGahan, and Power all set personal bests in the event.
- Thuotte continued to build on his strong meet with a third-place finish in the triple jump at 13.29 meters. Brady Elliott also scored in the event, placing fourth with a personal-best mark of 12.67 meters, which ranks fourth all-time in program history.
- In the steeplechase, Riley Stogsdill earned a third-place finish in 11:33.27, in just his second collegiate attempt at the event.
- The 4x400 relay team of Brian LaPorte, Brady Elliott, Nathan Thomas, and Riley Stogsdill scored points with a time of 3:44.49. In the 4x100 relay, DJ Marks, Michael Hatch, Zach Olayiwole, and Brady Elliott combined for a fifth-place finish in 46.60 to add two more points.
- In the 800 meters, Brian LaPorte finished just off the podium in 2:03.65, a personal best that ranks fourth all-time in program history.
The Regis College Pride will send a small group to the New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 2–3, 2026.
