Men's Track and Field Slated for Fourth in GNAC Championship Poll
WESTON, Mass. — The Regis men's track and field team has been selected to finish fourth overall in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coaches Poll, earning 11 votes ahead of Sunday's GNAC Indoor Championships at Boston University. Saint Joseph's (Maine) claimed the top spot in the poll, receiving all five first-place votes after winning each of the last three conference titles.
Senior Justin Thuotte will look to continue building on an impressive season. He ranks in the top 10 in the 60 meters and high jump, sits second in the long jump, third in the triple jump, and leads the conference in the weight throw. His long jump mark of 6.55 meters set a new program record.
In the field events, Ryan Sweeney enters the championship at the top of the GNAC in the shot put with a season-best throw of 12.88 meters. He also ranks among the top 10 in the weight throw.
In his debut season, Brady Elliott has made an immediate impact for the Pride, setting a new program record in the high jump at 1.85 meters, which ranks third in the GNAC. He also sits in the top 10 in both the long jump and triple jump.
On the track, Brian LaPorte will help pace the Pride. He owns the fifth-best time in the 800 meters with a personal-best 2:04.82 and is joined by Riley Stogsdill, who ranks ninth overall in the event.
Regis will also lean on its veteran leadership and experience as first-year head coach Kiera Murray prepares her squad for Sunday's championship meet.
