RAMOS, CONNOLLY SWEEP NECC WEEKLY HONORS
The Regis College women’s volleyball team swept the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) weekly awards this week as Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) was named the conference’s Player of the Week, and freshman Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.) was named the league’s top Rookie. The Pride (6-3) posted a 5-1 mark in matches played last week.
WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's volleyball team swept the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) weekly awards this week as Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) was named the conference's Player of the Week, and freshman Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.) was named the league's top Rookie. The Pride (6-3) posted a 5-1 mark in matches played last week.
Ramos, the team's libero, appeared in four of the five matches last week, averaging 4.07 digs per set. Ramos had seven digs and three aces in a 3-1 win over Eastern Nazarene College and followed that up with 20 digs in a 3-1 win over UMass Dartmouth at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. In day two of the Invitational, Ramos had a pair of kills, three aces, and 19 digs in another win over ENC before wrapping up the week with 11 digs in a 3-0 setback to Framingham State.
The senior Ramos is currently tied for the team-lead with 101 digs on the year and is second on the team in service aces with 12.
Connolly appeared in all five matches last week, posting 38 kills, 96 digs, and seven blocks. Connolly had 11 kills, an ace and 16 digs in the 3-1 win over Eastern Nazarene to start the week, following that up with seven kills, 20 digs, and four blocks in a 3-0 win over Norwich University. Later that night, Connolly posted six kills and 25 digs against host UMass Dartmouth. She wrapped up the week with four kills and 24 digs in another matchup with Eastern Nazarene, and 10 kills and 11 digs against the Rams.
Connolly is also tied for the team-lead in digs with 101 and total blocks (10), while ranking second in kills (59), third in attack percentage (.244), and sixth in aces (9).
The Crimson and Gold return to action on Tuesday night when the Pride host Anna Maria College in a 7:00 p.m. non-league matchup.
