Class of 2021 Spotlight – Women’s Tennis
WESTON, Mass. – The 2020-21 Regis College women's tennis roster featured one senior, as Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) was prepared to lead the Pride towards another competitive season within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
Playing primarily at the number one singles position throughout her collegiate career, Carly posted a 32-20 (.615) singles record, tied for ninth on Regis' career singles victories list. As a freshman, she earned First Team All-GNAC honors in singles with a 5-1 league mark, followed by Second Team All-GNAC recognition in singles during both her sophomore and junior seasons.
In doubles, Carly was part of duos at both the number one and number two doubles positions, finishing with a 35-19 (.648) mark, sixth in program history for most doubles victories as an individual. In 2019, Carly and doubles partner Ariana McCormack collected Second Team All-GNAC honors after an eight-win campaign, including four victories in regular season GNAC action as well as a shutout (8-0) win in the first round of the GNAC Tournament.
During the 2018-19 season, Carly partnered with Katelyn Mogelnicki for a 12-2 doubles record, moving into a tie for sixth place on the Pride all-time wins list by specific doubles teams. They are also in a tie for eighth place in program history for highest career winning percentage by a specific doubles duo at .800 (12-3).
"We placed Carly near or at the top of the lineup, which meant that we were asking her to go out and compete for a point towards our team total against the other team's best player," head tennis coach Andy White said. "I saw her play and be pushed to her limit, and for Carly to still walk away with a winning record speaks to her toughness both mentally and physically. I have no doubt she will carry that mentality into whatever path she chooses."
Helping the Pride advance to the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament in three straight seasons, Carly was named to the All-GNAC Tournament Team in 2019. She graduated from Regis College with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
Regis College sponsors 20 intercollegiate sports within NCAA Division III as part of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
