Pride Wrap Up Regis Invitational With Strong Relay Performances
WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's swim and dive team concluded competition at the Regis Invitational on Saturday, carrying action from the morning into the early afternoon with their final events against Keene State University.
The Pride opened the session with a season-best performance in the 400-yard medley relay, as the team of Emma Tirri (Stony Point, N.Y.), Sophia Nylin (Malden, Mass.), Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.), and Sophia Caruso (Haverhill, Mass.) touched in 4:41.90. Later in the meet, Caruso, Hubster, Jenna Silva (New Bedford, Mass.), and Whitney Assamoi (Boston, Mass.) combined for another season best, clocking a 4:08.64 in the 400 freestyle relay - nearly six seconds faster than their previous mark.
Caruso claimed the top spot in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.64, winning the event by nearly five seconds. Tirri followed for the Pride in 1:07.90, just ahead of Nylin, who posted a personal-best 1:07.96.
In the distance events, Keene State's Rory Lee set a new pool record in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 19:10.44, surpassing the previous standard of 19:23.96 held by Gloria Sutton '19.
Nylin added a season-best swim in the 200 breaststroke (3:11.25) and the 100 individual medley (1:20.84), followed by Kaylee King, who also posted a season-best 1:25.11 in the IM.
Hubster took first in the 100 butterfly with a season-best 1:10.44, while in the 400 individual medley, Silva recorded a personal-best 6:03.13 and Hubster finished in 5:21.70 in her first appearance in the event.
The Pride closed the meet with Caruso, Hubster, Silva, and Assamoi registering a season-best 1:53.74 in the 200 freestyle relay.
The Pride will get a brief chance to recover over winter recess before kicking off the new year with a training trip to Puerto Rico.
