Caruso Paces Pride at USJ Pentathlon; Dupre-Honda Takes Top Diving Honors
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Regis College women's swimming and diving team competed in the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) Pentathlon on Friday evening, turning in several strong performances in a field that featured 53 swimmers from six teams.
In the pentathlon format, each swimmer competes in five events - the 50 Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 50 Freestyle, and 100 IM. Times from all five races are combined, and the swimmer with the fastest total is declared the winner. Swimmers who are disqualified or do not complete all five events are ineligible for scoring. The event is contested individually, with no team scoring.
Sophia Caruso (Haverhill, Mass.) led the Pride, finishing just outside the top 10 in 11th place with a total time of 3:17.57 - just 0.48 seconds shy of cracking the top ten. Caruso also posted a personal best in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 25.25, moving up to ninth all-time in program history. Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) followed in 24th place with a total time of 3:28.99, while Jenna Silva (New Bedford, Mass.) and Emma Tirri (Stony Point, N.Y.) finished back-to-back in 35th (3:42.17) and 36th (3:44.18), respectively.
On the diving board, Christina Dupre-Honda (Brookline, Mass.) continued her dominance, claiming first place with a score of 183.30 which was a commanding 34.6 points ahead of the second-place finisher.
The Pride are back in the pool next Saturday, October 25 when they travel to Norwich University for an 11 a.m. start.
