Pride Swimming & Diving Participates in Hour of Power Relay
WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College swimming and diving program joined fellow collegiate and high school teams across the nation Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 13, for the Hour of Power Relay to raise money for the Ted Mullin Fund for Pediatric Sarcoma Research at the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital.
The relay, sponsored by Carleton College Swimming and Diving, takes place in honor of Ted Mullin, a swimmer at Carleton who died in the fall of 2006 from sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer. First held on Nov. 7, 2006, the Carleton Knights honored Mullin by swimming one of their favorite sets, a "Leave it in the Pool" practice consisting of continuous relays, done in any stroke, going all-out for one hour, with the objective of keeping all relays in each lane on the same length.
The Hour of Power Relay has grown from 15 teams in 2006 to 166 teams last year involving more than 8,600 athletes. Over the past 12 years, $738,000 has been raised by the event for the Ted Mullin Fund, 60 percent of the more than $1.25 million dollars raised overall by the Ted Mullin Fund.
Interested collegiate, high school and club teams are still welcome to register for the 2018-19 Hour of Power and find more information at http://go.carleton.edu/HourOfPower. Regis College, which completed its Hour of Power Relay from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, heads to Standish, Maine, for a dual meet against conference rival Saint Joseph's College Saturday, Nov. 17, starting at 12 p.m.
