WESTON, Mass. - Kristen Abreu (Woburn, Mass.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for women's soccer, as announced by the conference's offices yesterday morning. The sophomore forward, a 2011 NECC All-Conference Second Team honoree, led her team to a pair of wins this past week.
On Thursday night, Abreu scored three goals as the Pride defeated Wheelock by a score of 5-2. Abreu was clutch again on Saturday afternoon, helping her team to victory in a crucial NECC matchup with Becker. After receiving a through ball from Devinne Aquadro (Sturbridge, Mass.), Abreu took a high-sailing shot that found the back of the net for the 2-1 win in double overtime. The win locked up the second seed for Regis in the upcoming NECC Tournament.
Regis will host Newbury College on Wednesday, October 31 for a 6:00 p.m. NECC Quarterfinal game. The winner will move on to the Semifinals on Friday.
