Lasers Best Pride in Crosstown Matchup
NEWTON, Mass. — The Regis College women's lacrosse team traveled a short distance to face Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) neighbor Lasell University, where the Lasers outpaced the Pride 14-8, dropping Regis to 1-5 on the season and 1-4 in GNAC play.
Serenity Ayala led the Pride attack with five goals and three draw controls, while Maddie Sainato added two goals. Molly Higgins rounded out the scoring and also contributing a team-high three caused turnovers.
Emily Watson paced Lasell with six goals and an assist, and Emma Dressel added three goals and two helpers. Defensively, Mara Boldy recorded a game-high five caused turnovers. In net, Tia Spenlinhauer entered in the second half and stopped six shots to secure the win for the Lasers.
How it Happened
Led by a pair of early goals from Ayala, the Pride jumped out to a 3-1 lead just three minutes into the game. However, Watson turned the momentum in favor of the Lasers, scoring twice in the same frame and taking advantage of man-up opportunities, helping Lasers surge ahead 7-3 after the opening quarter.
Ayala and Sainato tried to keep Regis within striking distance - Sainato found the back of the net for her second goal, followed by Ayala scoring off a feed from Audrey Mason - to cut the deficit to 8-6. Despite their efforts, the Lasers added two more goals before the break to lead 10-6.
The third quarter was largely defensive, with both goalies standing tall, highlighted by Allayna Martone's six-save frame that kept the Lasers off the board.
Watson added to her tally off the opening draw in the fourth, before Mason set up Higgins for a goal to bring the Pride within 11-7 with 13:58 remaining. The Lasers quickly regained control, scoring again to maintain control and ultimately secure a 14-8 victory.

- In the last four games, Ayala has been perfect on shots on goal, going 14-for-14, and this marks her fifth consecutive outing with two or more goals.
