Women's Lacrosse Drop Weekend Matinee To UMass - Dartmouth
DARTMOUTH, Mass – The Regis women's lacrosse team was on the road this weekend taking on the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth. Although the Pride showed promise, Dartmouth's offense would overpower Regis coming out on top 21-10. With the loss, the Pride's record falls to 0-2 on the season.
Audrey Mason would lead the charge for the Pride, putting away five goals while adding one assist.
For the Corsairs, Maddy Aleen would be all they needed as she recorded seven goals and four assists for 11 points.
How It Happened
Regis opened the game with early momentum in the first quarter as Audrey Mason controlled the opening draw and quickly set up Maddie Sainato for the game's first goal just 10 seconds in. Dartmouth answered shortly after with a goal from Abby Pitts to tie the score, but Mason would then respond again with a goal of her own. The teams traded goals throughout the quarter, with Serenity Ayala adding a tally for the Pride and Mason converting a free-position attempt late in the period. However, the Corsairs finished the quarter strong giving them a narrow 5–4 lead heading into the second.
Dartmouth pulled away in the second, outscoring the Pride 5–2 to build a six-goal halftime advantage. Serenity Ayala briefly stopped the run with a free-position, man-up goal for Regis, and Mason added another free-position goal midway through the quarter. Despite the Pride's efforts, Mass.-Dartmouth continued to capitalize offensively, as the Corsairs carried a 10–6 lead into the break.
Regis looked to shift momentum in the third quarter as Paige Ritchie opened up her season's account with a quick goal to cut the deficit to three. Mason recorded her fourth goal of the game on another free-position attempt late in the frame, but the Corsairs maintained control and led 14–8 heading into the final quarter.In the final frame, Dartmouth continued its offensive surge, scoring the first three goals of the period to extend the lead. Emerson Adams would notch her of the season as she added another goal for Regis. The Corsairs closed out the contest with several late goals, as Dartmouth secured a 21–10 victory.
