Women's Lacrosse Chosen Atop NECC Preseason Poll
The four-time defending New England Collegiate Conference champion Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team has been voted to defend their title for a fifth year, as they have nabbed the top spot in the NECC Coaches' Preseason Poll.
ATTLEBORO, Mass. - The four-time defending New England Collegiate Conference champion Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team has been voted to defend their title for a fifth year, as they have nabbed the top spot in the NECC Coaches' Preseason Poll.
The Pride earned eight of a possible nine first place votes in the poll, finishing with 77 points to earn first place. The ninth first place vote went to last season's NECC runner up Southern Vermont, which finished in second place with 69 points. Third place went to the Hawks of Becker College with 60 points, with Wheelock rounding up the top four with 56 points.
The Pride will have a new look in 2017, as the team graduated five seniors last season. Twelve players, including seven starters, return from the 2016 conference championship team, while nine new faces join the roster.
Regis opens its 2017 season in just under a week, as the team travels to Rivier next Tuesday, Feb. 28 for a matchup with the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. The Pride will begin conference play just under a month later, when it hosts Mitchell on Saturday, Mar. 25 at 12:00 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
