WESTON, Mass. – Regis College freshman Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.) wasted no time making an impact on the women's lacrosse program as the rookie has been named the NCAA Division III statistical champion for goals per game during the 2012 campaign. Politis led the nation with a 5.69 goals per game average in 13 games played for the Pride this year.
Grace Politis ranked inside the top-20 in the nation in goals with 74, and was ninth in the country in points per game at 6.38. Politis finished tops on the team in goals and also added nine assists for a team-best 83 points in 2012. The rookie also led the Pride in draw controls with 65 and scooped up 55 groundballs, good for second on the team.
Head coach Liz Conant was extremely happy for Politis. "This is a huge achievement for Grace and I am so proud of her. She is one of the best, pure shooters I've seen in women's lacrosse. She is also very coachable and a great teammate. Obviously, I am really excited that Grace is with our program for another three years and I truly believe that her best is yet to come!"
After her first season with Regis, Politis has already made her mark on the record books. While spearheading the Pride's offense, Politis and the Pride nearly doubled its program win total in 2012, going a program-best 9-4. The freshman also currently ranks second all-time in career points (83), which is also the record for most points in a season. Her 74 goals in 2012 is also the record for goals in a single season, and Politis currently is second all-time in career goals with that number.
Politis and the Regis College Pride return to action in 2013 as the Crimson and Gold join the New England Collegiate Conference for the first time.
