Madi Zancan Earns NEWBA Third Team All-Region Honors
WESTON, Mass. -- As announced by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA), Madi Zancan earned Third Team All-Region honors. This marks her first NEWBA postseason recognition and represents the highest placement among Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) athletes. Fellow competitor from Lasell University, Laura Johnson, who led both the conference and the nation in rebounds at 19.1 per game, was named to the Fourth Team.
Zancan joins Pam Gonzalez and Brittney Stone as the only student-athletes in program history to represent the Pride on a NEWBA All-Region team. Gonzalez earned Third Team honors in 2022–23 along with an All-Rookie selection, while Stone holds the program's highest placement with a Second Team nod in 2017–18.
Zancan was no stranger to NEWBA recognition this season, earning Weekly Honor Roll mentions on Dec. 7, Jan. 6, Jan. 21, and Feb. 10, in addition to being named NEWBA Player of the Week on Feb. 3.
Zancan delivered one of the most impressive seasons in program and GNAC history this season, averaging 20.7 points (538 total) across 26 games. She led the conference and ranked eighth nationally in scoring while setting single-season program records for both total points and scoring average, shooting 52.1% from the field and 78.0% from the line. She capped her career ranked second all-time in scoring (1,766 points), third in scoring average (17.1 ppg), fifth in rebounds (912), and fourth in blocks (126).
This award adds to an impressive list of postseason accolades for the senior, including GNAC First Team honors, GNAC Player of the Year, and D3hoops.com All-Region First Team recognition.
