Women's Basketball Falls In Quarterfinals to Albertus Magnus
WESTON, Mass. — After a snow delay pushed the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's quarterfinals back a day, the No. 3-seeded Pride finally got their chance to take Higgins Court tonight against the No. 6-seeded Falcons from Albertus Magnus College. After a hard-fought back-and-forth game, the Falcons would get the best of the Pride down the stretch, escaping with a win, 65-60. With the loss, Regis' concludes their 2025-26 season with an overall record of 12-14 and 9-3 mark in the conference action.
In what proved to be her final game, Madi Zancan closed her career the same way she played all season, leading the Pride with a dominant double-double of 17 points and 18 rebounds. Jordyn Striggles also poured in 17 points, while Jillian Perry sparked a late push and closed with 15 points, six rebounds, and four steals.
For the Falcons, the upset was powered by Ariellys Velez, who erupted for a game-high 30 points. Isabella Fiorillo filled the stat sheet as well, contributing 10 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in the win.
How it Happened
In the first quarter, both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm, combining for several missed shots and turnovers. Albertus Magnus struck first, but Regis quickly answered with a three-pointer from Jordyn Striggles. That would be the Pride's only field goal of the quarter, while the Falcons managed just two more of their own, taking a narrow 8–5 lead into the second.
In the second quarter, the Pride used a strong mid-period run to seize momentum. Albertus responded behind a three-point play from Isabella Fiorillo and baskets from Ariellys Velez to tie the game at 17. Regis countered with a three from Erika Marinelli and steady free-throw shooting from Madi Zancan. A late Zancan three extended the lead to seven, but Velez scored just before the buzzer to send Regis into halftime with a 27–22 advantage.
Albertus flipped the script in the third quarter, erasing the deficit and shifting the momentum. Velez buried a go-ahead three to make it 35–34 and attacked the glass for key second-chance points. Strong defensive pressure limited Regis' perimeter looks, while Dejahlee Dogans converted a three-point play to help stretch the lead. By the end of the quarter, the Falcons were in front 45–39.
Albertus carried that momentum into the fourth, opening on a run to build a 50–39 lead. The Pride, however, refused to fold. Jillian Perry sparked a comeback effort, knocking down a pair of threes, diving for loose balls, collecting steals, and battling on the boards to keep possessions alive. Her energy helped trim the deficit to 56–50 with under four minutes to play and reignited the Regis crowd.
Back-to-back threes from Striggles and Perry later cut the lead to 59–56 and brought the crowd to its feet once more. But each time Regis made a push, Albertus answered with timely baskets. Despite a late three from Striggles to make it a four-point game, the Falcons sealed the win at the free-throw line and with a defensive stop in the closing seconds, securing a 65–60 victory to advance to the semifinals.
