Striggles Sets Three-Point Record as Pride Edge NEC on Senior Day
WESTON, Mass. — Regis College women's basketball celebrated Senior Day in style on Saturday, pairing a conference victory with a milestone performance from senior Jordyn Striggles, who became the program's all-time leader in three-pointers made. The Pride hosted New England College and edged the Pilgrims, 83-81, to improve to 10-12 overall and 7-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Madi Zancan poured in a game-high 27 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists, while Striggles followed with 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Jillian Perry rounded out the scoring in an efficient performance, finishing with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting, five assists, three steals, and two blocks.
New England College placed four players in double figures, led by Jayden Estrada's 23 points and six assists. Ajayah Lively recorded an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double off the bench, while Camryn Lewis added 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds in the effort.
How it Happened
Back-to-back Pilgrim triples to open the game helped them establish an early advantage, but the lead changed hands late in the first quarter. A Riley Whitter three, followed by a perfect trip to the free-throw line from Zoey Swanson, gave the Pride a 17-16 edge with under a minute remaining. The Pride nearly carried the lead into the second frame, but Estrada was fouled on a three-pointer as time was about to expire and converted two of three at the line to give the Pilgrims a slim advantage after one.
The second quarter followed a similar script, with the Pilgrims holding a slight edge for much of the frame. That changed late as Perry caught fire, knocking down a pair of spot-up triples to ignite the crowd and send the Pride into the break with a 41-40 lead.
In the third, consecutive three-pointers from Perry and Striggles fueled a 9–2 run that pushed the Pride in front, 54-48. The Pilgrims answered with a 7-2 surge of their own to pull back within one possession, and the Pride carried a narrow 60-57 lead into the final quarter.
Both teams traded triples to start the fourth before a 9-0 run - sparked by seven points from Zancan - gave the Pride their largest lead of the game at 73-63 with 6:22 to play. The Pilgrims responded with nine unanswered points to make it a one-point game, but a timely Striggles three halted the momentum and gave the Pride breathing room at 77-73 with 2:25 remaining.
The Pilgrims again pulled within one, but Striggles connected on her fourth three of the game, and a Zancan layup extended the lead to five. A Pilgrim triple in the final 11 seconds trimmed the margin to two, but their rally came up short as time expired, sealing an 83-81 Pride victory.
