RAMONAS POST CAREER-HIGH IN REGIS COLLEGE VICTORY OVER LIONS
WESTON, Mass.—Freshman Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine/Deering) had a career-high 21 points while leading Regis College to a 65-51 win over conference foe Eastern Nazarene College Saturday.
WESTON, Mass.—Freshman Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine/Deering) had a career-high 21 points while leading Regis College to a 65-51 win over conference foe Eastern Nazarene College Saturday.
Ramonas went 9-for-16 (.563) from the field while leading Regis College (9-7, 3-2 TCCC) to its the Commonwealth Coast Conference victory. Eastern Nazarene (2-13, 1-3 TCCC) had four players post double figures, but the impressive sharing of the ball did not help the Lions.
Teammate Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) had 16 points, three assists, and was impressive with her 5-for-8 (.625) shooting from the field. She was also 50 percent from the free-throw line.
The Pride had a respectable night shooting, making shy of 42 percent (25-for-60) of its shots from the field. Regis College found itself on the beneficial end of Eastern Nazarene committing 23 fouls in the game. The Pride made 12-of-31 in free throws, 38.7 percent, with Crawford taking a majority of the shots.
Regis College had just 10 turnovers, 13 fewer than the Lions, an important stat line to note in Regis’ win.
Regis College is in its second winning streak of at least three games for the second time this season. The Pride has defeated its last three opponents, all conference, before it hosts non-conference opponent Colby (Jan. 25) in a three-game week forthcoming.
Primarily during tournament play will a team compete in three games in a week, which Regis will do as preparation for making the tournament at regular seasons end. Beginning with Colby College (Jan. 25), then 2009-10 conference champion University of New England (Jan. 27), and finishing the three-game stretch with Wentworth (Jan. 29).
