Weston, Mass.—Regis College (6-4) fell to Brandeis University (7-2) Thursday 66-55. Morgan Kendrew (Cotuit, Mass.) and Kasey Gieschen (Boonton Township, N.J.) led the Judges with 17 points each.
Gieschen tallied a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes of play. Kendrew entered intermission with just two points in the books. A threat from behind the arc, Kendrew shot better than 60 percent (3-of-5) from the three-point line in the second half.
Jessica Chapin (Mendon, N.Y.) rang in with 11 points for Brandeis.
Regis College had three players tally double figures in the loss. Junior Brittany White (Dorchester, Mass.) had a team-high 19 points for Regis College. White was 64 percent (9-of-14) from the floor, scoring a majority of her points within the paint.
Senior Jessica Page (Quincy, Mass.) contributed 14 points in 36 minutes, shooting .500 from the free throw-line, and 46 percent (6-of-13) from the floor.
Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) added 10 points for the Pride, and was within two rebounds of having the teams only double-double in points and rebounds.
The Pride battled a tough Brandeis team for much of the game. Neither team took more than a six-point lead in the first half. Brandeis would nip away at a six-point deficit to trail Regis 30-28 entering halftime.
The teams returned to the court continuing to keep the game close. With 13:35 remaining in the game Morgan tied the score for the seventh time with a three-pointer from the left wing.
A Regis College turnover by Page, and another three-pointer by Morgan began the Pride’s decline.
Down by five with less than 2:00 on the clock, and forced to foul, Regis College quickly trailed by eight points.
With Morgan taking the last four free throws of the game for Brandeis, the Judges lead crept to 11 points with 45 seconds remaining.
Regis College will compete in the University
of Southern Maine Tournament Jan. 2-3, before returning home to
face The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Colby-Sawyer
College Jan. 9. Brandeis will host the University of New England
Jan. 5.
