Regis Falls to No. 19 Lasell on Senior Night
WESTON, Mass. -- Regis men's volleyball welcomed nationally ranked Lasell University to Higgins Court for its final home match of the season, as the No. 19 Lasers earned a 3-0 victory. With the loss, the Pride move to 14-14 overall and 1-5 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
Brandon Valdes led the Pride's offensive effort with nine kills on a .308 hitting percentage to go along with five digs, while Jalen Watt added seven kills and two blocks. Adam Bonica contributed six kills and six digs with a service ace. Evan Shank directed the offense with 26 assists, adding an ace, a block, and three digs, while Haden Houatchanthara anchored the back row with a team-high 10 digs.
Jasper Schultz paced Lasell with a match-high 19 kills on a .389 hitting percentage, while also adding eight digs. Remy Cahalan recorded seven kills on an efficient .467 clip, and Paten Buckwalter totaled five kills on a team-best .714 hitting percentage with nine digs. Trystan Maloney dished out 31 assists with four digs, and Ryan Mesnik led all players with 11 digs.
How it Happened
Lasell set the tone early in the opening frame, racing out to a 10-4 lead behind a quick start and strong swings from Jasper Schultz. Regis worked to chip away at the deficit, with Adam Bonica and Brandon Valdes leading the response to make it 18-14, but the Lasers answered with another push behind Remy Cahalan and Paten Buckwalter to take the set 25-17.
The second set was a tightly contested battle throughout, featuring multiple ties at 7-7 and 12-12. Evan Shank guided the Regis offense as the Pride found their rhythm, with Brandon Valdes, Adam Bonica, and John Nangle helping build a 16-14 advantage. Regis maintained a slight edge at 21-19 and 24-23, while Jalen Watt delivered key late points and teamed with Nangle for a big block. The Pride edged ahead 27-26, but Lasell closed on a late run to steal the set, 30-28.
In the third, Lasell once again jumped in front early, breaking a 1-1 tie with a decisive run to go up 8-2 and later extending the lead to 16-9. Regis showed resilience midway through the set, getting contributions from Brandon Valdes and Xavier Reyes, including a block that helped narrow the gap to 11-8. However, Lasell quickly regained control and continued to apply pressure. Despite a few late points from Valdes and a kill from Evan Shank, the Lasers pulled away for a 25-15 win to complete the sweep.
