Men's Volleyball Skid Continues As They Drop Match To Endicott
WESTON, Mass--The Regis Pride men's volleyball team wrapped up a three game homestand tonight versus the visiting Endicott College Gulls. Although the Pride put up a valiant effort, the Gulls would prove why they've recieved national ranking votes, taking tonight's contest in three straight sets. With tonight's loss Regis' record drops to 9-10.
Despite the loss, sophomore Adam Bonica would continue his impressive form, registering 16 kills, setting him up would be none other than Evan Shank who provided 31 assists in the contest.
For Endicott, Aidan Iacovelli would pace their offense with 13 kills.
How It Happened
The opening set featured a back-and-forth battle with multiple ties and lead changes throughout. Regis received strong offensive contributions from Bonica and Brandon Valdes, both connecting on several key swings from Shank to keep the Pride within reach. Late kills from John Nangle and Valdes helped Regis push the set past 25 points, and a block from Xavier Reyes and Bonica briefly gave the Pride a 27-26 edge. However, Endicott responded with consecutive points behind Thomas Matchett and the Gulls' block to close the set, 29-27.
In the second set, Endicott built early momentum with a 4-0 run, but Regis responded behind a balanced attack. Bonica and Jalen Watt each recorded timely kills, while Nangle added a block alongside Watt to help the Pride stay close midway through the frame. A service ace from Eli Dignazio also helped Regis before the Gulls regained control with several kills from Iacovelli and Aaron Bennett. Despite late points from Bonica and Watt, Endicott maintained its advantage down the stretch and secured the set, 25-21, to take a 2-0 lead.
The Gulls carried that momentum into the third set, jumping out to an early lead behind aggressive serving and a series of kills from Iacovelli and Jake Laborde. Regis attempted to rally with offensive production from Bonica and Watt, while Valdes sparked a brief run with a service ace that trimmed the deficit to two points midway through the set. Shank also added a setter dump to keep the Pride within striking distance. However, Endicott ultimately pulled away late, using a strong run fueled by Iacovelli and the Gulls' block to close the set 25-17 and complete the three-set victory.
