Men's Volleyball End NYC Trip With Win Over Bears
Brooklyn, NY -- The Pride Men's Volleyball team was in action today taking on the Bears of St.Joseph's Brooklyn in their final day of their New York City roadtrip. In a 5-set thriller, the Pride would come out on top, improving their record to 8-7.
Regis' top performers included Younes Suleiman who provided 34 assists, John Nangle who hit .563% and Adam Bonica who added 13 kills.
For the Bears, Jack Buscaglia who run the offense with 40 assists.
How it Happened
Regis opened the match with efficient attacking, hitting .200 in the frame while limiting St. Joseph's to just .032. Adam Bonica and John Nangle paced the attack, while the Pride capitalized on service pressure and Bears errors to build separation midway through the set. After breaking open a tight early score, Regis maintained control down the stretch to claim the six-point victory.
The Pride carried momentum into the second set, improving their efficiency to a .391 hitting percentage. Bonica sparked the late surge with consecutive service aces, helping Regis break a 21-21 tie and close the set on a decisive run. Timely kills from Nangle and contributions in transition play allowed Regis to take a 2-0 match lead.
St. Joseph's responded in the third, finding its offensive rhythm behind 12 kills and a .375 hitting percentage. The Hawks used multiple service runs to create separation, while Regis struggled to regain momentum despite contributions from Haden Houatchanthara and Vincent Betonio. The St.Joe's closed the frame to extend the match.
The fourth set featured several lead changes and extended rallies as both teams battled for control. Regis received key swings from Nangle and Bonica to stay even late, but St. Joseph's executed in the final points to edge out the two-point win and force a deciding fifth set.
In the deciding set, Regis displayed composure under pressure. The Pride built an early advantage before St. Joseph's fought back to tie the score late. Clutch kills from Jalen Watt and Bonica, along with a critical service ace from Eli Dignazio, helped Regis secure the final two points and close out the 15-13 victory.
