Men's Volleyball Open Season Strong, Beating Elms 3-0
CHICOPEE, Mass – The Regis college men's volleyball team opened up their season on the road in Chicopee, Massachusetts taking on Elms College. The Pride would have a great start to their season winning in three sets, and making their record a perfect 1-0.
How it Happened
Regis jumped out quickly, taking advantage of Elm's service and attack errors to build an early lead. Evan Shank (Yorba Linda, Calif.) consistently set up Brandon Valdes (Miami, Fla.), Adam Bonica (Quincy, Mass.), and Eddie Djatcha (Lowell, Mass.), who all had multiple kills. John Nangle (Lowell, Mass) contributed a service ace and steady blocking at the net. After an Elms timeout at 13–6, Regis never slowed down, closing the set with efficiency and back-to-back kills to win comfortably.
Elms started stronger in the second set, but Regis quickly responded with another service run, highlighted by Nangle's ace and Bonica's service pressure. Jalen Watt (South Hadley, Mass.) and Valdes continued to score efficiently from the pins, while the Regis blocks forced multiple Elms attack errors. Elms made a brief push midway through the set with a few service aces, but Regis answered immediately and closed the set.
The third set was the most competitive. Regis opened with strong serving and early blocks to take a 6–1 lead. Elms fought back behind improved attacking and reduced errors, eventually tying the score late at 21–21. In the final stretch, Regis stayed composed, with Djatcha and Valdes delivering key kills, a final service ace sealed the match for the Pride to take tonight's contest in three straight sets.
