Sweeney Earns GNAC Field Athlete of the Week, Kirk Named Rookie of the Week
WESTON, Mass. — As announced by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), Ryan Sweeney was named Field Athlete of the Week, while Zoe Kirk earned Rookie of the Week honors following their performances at the Jonathan Tymann Invitational last Friday at Gordon College.
In the field events, Sweeney placed 11th overall in the shot put invitational with a throw of 11.57 meters. He also turned in a strong performance in the hammer throw, finishing fifth with a personal-best mark of 38.28 meters.
Kirk delivered a standout performance on the track and in the field. She posted a time of 16.99 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles prelims, ranking third all-time among first-years and tying for fifth in program history, before finishing fourth in the finals (17.70). She also tied a program record in the high jump (1.42 meters) and added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (10.24 meters), the second-best mark all-time by a first-year. Kirk was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team that placed third with a time of 52.88.
The honor marks the first weekly award of Sweeney's career, while Kirk collects her first outdoor weekly award after earning two Rookie of the Week honors during the indoor season.
The Regis track and field team returns to action this Saturday at 10 a.m. at Fitchburg State.
