The Regis College men’s tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 9-0 sweep of Susquehanna University on Wednesday afternoon in Tampa, Fla. The Pride improve to 1-5 on the year with the win.
TAMPA, Fla. – The Regis College men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 9-0 sweep of Susquehanna University on Wednesday afternoon in Tampa, Fla. The Pride improve to 1-5 on the year with the win.
Regis took an early 3-0 lead following doubles play as Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) posted an 8-2 win over Jeremy Neville and Dan Kinney in No. 1 doubles. Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) won by a matching score of 8-2 in No. 2 doubles, while Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) defeated Andrew Parrish and Alexander Jordan, 8-0, in No. 3 doubles.
The Pride were just as good in singles play as Beluch picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and Morgenbesser added a 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot. Cohen, Polley, and White won at No. 3, 4, and 5, singles by matching scores of 6-0, 6-0. Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) rounded out the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
"The guys responded really well after Monday with today's win over Susquehanna. Everyone played excellent, especially our second and third doubles teams," said Coach John Ciarleglio.
"Singles play improved as well as Nate, Andy, and Jarid played with confidence. The men have a tough match tomorrow, but today was a great step to get ready."
Regis returns to action tomorrow morning when they take on St. John's of Minnesota at 11:30 a.m.
