REGIS DOWNS WHEELOCK IN SECOND-STRAIGHT MATCH, 9-0
For the second-straight match, Regis College defeated Wheelock College by a score of 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) menâs tennis action. The Pride have now won six-straight and sit atop the NECC standings at 6-8 overall and 6-0 in the league. Wheelock falls to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the NECC with the setback.
WESTON, Mass. – For the second-straight match, Regis College defeated Wheelock College by a score of 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's tennis action. The Pride have now won six-straight and sit atop the NECC standings at 6-8 overall and 6-0 in the league. Wheelock falls to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the NECC with the setback.
The Pride opened the day with a 3-0 sweep in doubles play as Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) defeated Charles Armstrong-Hicks (Windsor, Conn.) and Jeff Silveria (Wilmington, Mass.) in No. 1 singles. Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) handed Jamileh Sabeti-Javid (Nice, France) and Lexi Seder (Norwich, Conn.) by the same score in No. 2 doubles.
Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) and Biruk Legesse (Marion, Mass.) rounded out doubles play with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles over Caelin Mooney (Rensselaer, N.Y.) and Claire O'Donoghue (East Haven, Conn.).
Parrish and Legesse picked up matching 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively, while Austin Nace jumped out to a 6-0, 4-0 lead at No. 5 singles before Sabeti-Javid was forced to retire. Andy White defeated Claire O'Donoghue in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Sophorn Nop was victorious in No. 4 singles by the same score. Michael Beluch added a 6-1, 6-1 win over Charles Armstrong-Hicks at the top singles spot en route to the 9-0 win.
The Pride return to action next Thursday when Regis travels to Mitchell College for an NECC contest at 3:00 p.m. Wheelock continues the search for its first win of the season on Monday afternoon as the Wildcats host Becker College in a 7:00 p.m. conference match.
