RAVENS SOAR PAST PRIDE, 6-3
The Regis College men’s tennis team dropped its season opener, 6-3, to Franklin Pierce University on Sunday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Pride fall to 0-1 on the year, while the Ravens picked up their first win of 2012 to improve to 1-2.
WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's tennis team dropped its season opener, 6-3, to Franklin Pierce University on Sunday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Pride fall to 0-1 on the year, while the Ravens picked up their first win of 2012 to improve to 1-2.
Franklin Pierce took an early 2-1 lead following doubles play as the Ravens took wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Hunter Cawley (Wimberley, Texas) grabbed the lone point of the double play with their 9-8 (7-5) win at No. 1 doubles.
The Ravens continued their strong play in singles action as Franklin Pierce took four of the six matchups to seal the 6-3 victory. Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) needed a tie-break to win his No. 3 singles matchup versus Drew Bennett, which White won 6-3, 2-6, 10-7. Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) grabbed the other singles win for the Pride in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1, over Michael Selling.
The Pride return to action next Sunday as the Pride hosts Rhode Island College at 1:00 p.m.
