WESTON, Mass. — The Regis College men's swim and dive team returned to competition Friday night, hosting Elms College and Gordon College at the Regis College Pool. The Pride defeated Elms, 121-21, while falling to Gordon, 149-79.
Gavin Olsen (South Portland, Maine) opened the night with a commanding victory in the 1000 freestyle, taking the top spot in 11:48.61, more than 50 seconds ahead of the field.
In the sprint relays, the quartet of Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.), Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.), Andy Martin, and Olsen finished second in the 200 medley relay, recording a time of 1:50.50, which is a season-best for the Regis men's sqaud.
Regis found more scoring power in the short sprints. Nagaraj and Olsen placed second and third, respectively, in the 50 freestyle, while Andrew Martin (Raynham, Mass.) added a fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly at 1:04.60. Martin also returned to take second place in the 50 fly with a season-best time of 27.28. Josh Dion (Weston, Mass.) contributed a third-place finish in that same event (29.63) and added points with a third-place swim in the 200 free with a personal-best time of 2:20.46.
The Pride saw one of their strongest swims come from senior Kim, who captured first place in the 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 1:05.09. He also posted a personal-best 28.61 in the 50 breast, moving him into a tie for fourth all-time in program history. Kim continued his impressive night with another personal best in the 100 IM, finishing second in 57.78, a time that now ranks him fifth all-time at Regis.
The momentum carried over to the boards, where the Pride delivered two more personal-best performances in the 1-meter dive. Michael Zammuto (Burlington, Mass.) earned the event win with a career-high 321.05 points, followed closely by Dion, who secured second place with a personal-best 299.10.
Regis will return to the pool next week to host the Regis Invitational, a two-day event on campus. Friday's session begins at 6 p.m., followed by Saturday's competition at 11 a.m.
