WESTON, Mass. — The Regis College men's lacrosse team opened its home slate at Regis Stadium on Saturday, but Dean College used a strong second-half surge to pull away with a 12–10 victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. The loss drops the Pride to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in GNAC play.
The Pride offense was powered by Luke Meelia and Nick Klein, who each found the back of the net four times, while Jack Jaynes added a goal and three assists to round out the attack. Defensively, Colin McGarry anchored the unit with seven caused turnovers, and Devin Hammon turned aside 15 shots in a strong effort between the pipes.
For the Bulldogs, Manny Alvarez-Segee led all scorers with five goals and an assist, while Nick Fernandez chipped in two goals. On the defensive end, Shawn Beebe caused four turnovers and collected three ground balls. In goal, David Macneil entered in the second half and secured the win with five saves.
How it Happened
The Pride wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to an early lead with three quick goals, including a pair from Nick Klein. Dean College answered late in the opening quarter to cut the deficit to 4-2, but Klein completed his hat trick with 2:25 remaining to give Regis a 5-3 edge after one.
The second quarter settled into a slower pace, with both Klein and Luke Meelia adding to the lead while the Bulldogs managed to break through once, sending Regis into halftime in front, 7-4.
Dean came out of the break with a surge, rattling off six unanswered goals while getting a strong stretch in net to flip the game and take a 10–7 advantage into the final quarter.
Regis responded with urgency in the fourth, as Matt Cabassa and Jack Jaynes scored in quick succession to pull within one. Moments later, the Pride capitalized on a man-up opportunity, with Meelia finishing a feed from Jaynes to even the score at 10-10.
The Bulldogs answered midway through the quarter to regain the lead and added an insurance goal late on an extra-man chance. Despite several key saves from Devin Hammon and a late push, Regis couldn't find the equalizer as Dean held on for the 12-10 victory.
Inside the Numbers:
- Colin McGarry's seven caused turnovers marks a new single-game program record.
- Luke Meelia's four goals is a career-best for the sophomore.
