How It Happened
Regis came out in a tightly contested first quarter against Thomas, with both teams trading possessions early. Regis broke through first at the 7:38 mark when Nick Klein scored, sparking a brief 2-0 run that included a goal from Luke Meelia. Thomas responded with a man-up goal and later evened the score at 2-2 behind Owen Lyons, but Regis regained the lead late in the quarter as Alex Dougenik found the back of the net. After one, Regis held a narrow 3-2 advantage.
The second quarter saw Regis begin to create some separation, capitalizing on offensive opportunities while continuing to get strong play in net from Devin Hammon. A goal from Matt Cabassa extended the lead to 4-2, and Klein added another to make it 5-2 midway through the period. Despite Thomas continuing to apply pressure, including another man-up goal from Lyons and a strike from Connor Hamilton to cut the deficit to one, Regis answered in the final seconds. Klein's late goal with just 10 seconds remaining gave Regis momentum and a 6-4 lead heading into halftime.
Thomas took full control in the third quarter, flipping the game with a dominant offensive stretch. Lyons quickly cut the deficit to one before Hamilton tied it, and moments later Hamilton struck again to give Thomas its first lead of the game. The momentum continued to swing heavily in Thomas' favor as goals from Nicholas Pike and Lyons extended the run. Despite a late goal from Klein to stop the bleeding, Thomas exploded for a seven-goal quarter overall, taking a commanding 11-7 lead into the fourth.
In the final quarter, Thomas maintained control and never allowed Regis to mount a serious comeback. Pike added another goal early in the period to push the lead to five, and although Klein and Jack Jaynes each scored for Regis, the deficit proved too large to overcome. A late goal from Hunter Simpson helped seal the outcome as Thomas closed out a 13-9 victory.
