Men’s Lacrosse Places Three on NEILA All-Academic Team
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Three members of the Regis College men's lacrosse program received regional academic honors, as recent graduates Logan Bateman (Claremont, N.H.), Michael Daras (Danvers, Mass.), and Brendon Donahue (Lynn, Mass.) have been named to the Division III All-Academic Team by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA).
To be selected to the NEILA All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have been either a senior or a graduate student in 2020-21, must have a grade point average of at least 3.0, and must have been a significant enough player that he was nominated for at least All-Conference honors sometime during his collegiate career. In total, 141 Division III players representing 32 institutions made an appearance on this year's squad.
Bateman played in 29 games during his collegiate career, starting all of them. He picked up 121 career groundballs, seventh in program history, and caused 36 career turnovers, fourth all-time at Regis. He has been a three-time captain of the team, setting the example in every aspect of the program. Bateman took part in service trips with the Center for Ministry and Service and was recognized as a Pillar of the Community in 2020. Bateman received his bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering and is planning to attend medical school.
"Logan has been a highly valuable member of the team throughout his entire career both on and off the field. His leadership has been tremendous, and his presence will be missed," head coach Matthew Sweeney said.
Daras played in 27 games in his Regis career, scoring 39 goals and adding 28 assists. His dependable performance made him a critical part of the team, as they often looked to him to provide an offensive spark. Daras has been a tremendous leader on the team, always taking time to help out the younger players. He earned Academic All-GNAC honors as well as being recognized as a Pillar of the Regis Community in 2020. Graduating with a bachelor's degree in psychology, Daras will pursue PA school in the future.
"Mike's contributions to this team had a huge impact on our success on the field and in the classroom," said Coach Sweeney. "He will stand as an example for our student-athletes for years to come."
Donahue played in 29 games in his career, starting 27 of them. He racked up three goals, 88 groundballs, 13 caused turnovers, and 167 faceoff wins, fourth-most in program history. Donahue played every single position on the field for the team – including goalie where he made 10 saves in a victory over Mitchell in 2019. He has also been recognized for his academic success, earning Academic All-GNAC honors two times so far. Graduating with a humanities degree, he was recently accepted into law school.
"Brendon is the ultimate teammate on and off the field. He has played every position on the lacrosse field during his career while maintaining a nearly flawless GPA," Coach Sweeney said.
Men's lacrosse is one of 20 intercollegiate programs sponsored by Regis College competing within NCAA Division III and the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
