Regis Men’s Basketball Season Comes to an End in GNAC Quarterfinals
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Regis College men's basketball season came to an end tonight in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) quarterfinals, as the No. 3 seeded Falcons defeated the Pride 96-57. Regis finished the season with an overall record of 14-12 and 5-7 in GNAC play.
Jamir Harvey led the Pride with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Ned Fitzpatrick added 10 points off the bench.
Albertus Magnus showcased a balanced offensive attack, with five players scoring in double figures. Ray Ford Jr. paced the Falcons with 17 points, 11 assists, and four steals, while Ta'zhon Daniels led all scorers with 21 points in the victory.
How it Happened
After a three-pointer from Jamir Harvey cut the Pride's deficit to just one, the Falcons responded with five unanswered points to build a small cushion. Jahkai Veal then connected from deep, making it 13-10 in favor of Albertus Magnus with just over 11 minutes remaining in the first half.
The three-point shot continued to keep the Pride in the game, as Aamyr Sullivan's three-pointer tied the score at 19 with 7:58 to play. Shortly after, Rob Elliot converted an and-one, scoring on a basket while drawing the foul, which gave Regis its largest lead of the half at 24-21 with 6:45 remaining. The lead would swing back and forth before the Falcons regained control, stretching their advantage to as many as eight points. A late jumper from Ned Fitzpatrick trimmed the deficit, sending the teams to the locker room at halftime with Albertus Magnus ahead 38-32.
The Falcons came out of the break red-hot, scoring 10 unanswered points before Rob Elliot's layup finally ended the run. Albertus Magnus then added six more points to build a 20-point lead with 13:49 remaining. A three-pointer from Devon Reid followed by a layup from Ned Fitzpatrick brought the Pride back to within 19 but hat would be as close as they would get the rest of the way. The Falcons continued to respond offensively, scoring 58 points in the second half to cruise to a 96-57 victory and advance to the semifinals.
