Postseason Preview: Pride Clinch Sixth Seed, Set for Quarterfinal Showdown
WESTON, Mass. — The Regis College men's basketball team left no doubt about their resilience, battling down to the final day of the regular season to punch their ticket to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament. A hard-fought 69-66 victory over Dean College - coupled with a four-way tiebreaker - secured the sixth seed for the Pride. Regis closes the regular season at 14-11 overall and 5-7 in GNAC play, carrying momentum into postseason action.
Now, the Pride turn their attention to the road as head coach Nate Hager leads his squad to Albertus Magnus for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday, February 25. The two teams met in the GNAC opener back in January, where the Falcons earned an 80-70 win.
Regis is powered by the duo of Jamir Harvey and Aamyr Sullivan. Harvey, a senior leader, paces the team with 14.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. His versatility makes him a difficult matchup - capable of finishing strong at the rim while also stretching the floor from three-point range. Earlier this season, in the matchup against Albertus Magnus, Harvey poured in 22 points to surpass the 1,000-career-point milestone, becoming the eighth player in program history to join the prestigious club.
Sullivan, meanwhile, serves as the engine of the Pride offense. The sophomore guard fills the stat sheet, averaging 11.8 points, 4.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per contest. His ability to control the tempo, facilitate for teammates, and score when needed has been instrumental to Regis' success. He enters the tournament fresh off his second 20-point performance of the season in Saturday's clinching win and will aim to carry that confidence into Wednesday night.
Depth has also been key for the Pride. Ned Fitzpatrick is enjoying a career year, setting personal bests in points, three-pointers, rebounds, assists, and steals. One of the team's top perimeter threats, he has knocked down a career-high 34 three-pointers this season, including five games with at least three makes from beyond the arc. His shooting provides a spark that can quickly shift momentum.
Alongside him, Tyrone Chinn has embraced his role off the bench with a gritty, high-energy style. Crashing the boards and attacking the paint, Chinn has reached double figures in seven games this season and enters postseason play following back-to-back 10-point performances.
With confidence building and their postseason opportunity earned the hard way, the Pride head into Wednesday's quarterfinal matchup determined to extend their season. The winner will advance to face the victor of the University of Saint Joseph and Dean College matchup.
