Pride Clinch GNAC Postseason Berth with 69-66 Win Over Dean
FRANKLIN, Mass. — The Pride gutted out a 69–66 victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Dean College to solidify a spot in the GNAC postseason. Regis closes the regular season with a 14–11 overall record and a 5–7 mark in conference play.
Aamyr Sullivan led the Pride with 21 points and four steals. Jahkai Veal added 10 points, while Tyronne Chinn chipped in 10 points off the bench to go along with seven rebounds. Jamir Harvey controlled the glass with a game-high 12 rebounds in the victory.
The Bulldogs were paced by Christian Yates, who recorded a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Xavier Boyd contributed 13 points in the effort.
How it Happened
The Bulldogs raced out to a 17-6 lead before Tyronne Chinn scored four straight at the 11:29 mark to briefly slow their momentum. Moments later, a Sullivan three-pointer ignited a 7-0 Pride run, trimming the deficit to 21-17 with 8:59 remaining in the half.
Regis continued to chip away and used a 10–0 surge capped by a steal and finish from Jeffrey Herbin to claim its first lead at 27–26. The two sides traded baskets down the stretch before Jahkai Veal beat the buzzer with a jumper, sending the game into halftime tied at 34.
Four minutes into the second half, back-to-back triples from Herbin and Rob Elliott gave the Pride a slim 44-40 advantage. The momentum swung yet again, as the Bulldogs answered with seven straight points midway through the half to take a 57-52 lead and force a Regis timeout.
The break proved pivotal. Sullivan knocked down consecutive three-pointers to help the Pride regain a narrow 61-57 edge. From there, neither team could build more than a one-possession cushion, setting up a dramatic finish.
Dean used a jumper to pull ahead by one with 1:03 to play, prompting another Pride timeout. Out of the huddle, Regis found Jamir Harvey open on the perimeter, and he calmly buried a three-pointer to give the Pride a 68–66 lead. The defense took over from there, coming up with a crucial stop before Veal added a free throw to extend the margin to three. The Bulldogs had three looks from beyond the arc in the closing seconds but were unable to convert, as the Pride held on for the 69–66 victory and a berth in the GNAC postseason.
