Men's Basketball Holds on After Late Push From Fighting Scots, 77-73
WESTON, Mass – The Pride men's basketball team was back in action at home tonight for the first time since December 2nd, taking on the Fighting Scots of Gordon College. The Pride would get the best of Gordon, taking this one 77-73 improving their record on the year to 9-4.
The Pride's offense was led by Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) who had four steals and 19 points in tonight's win. The Pride's bench would also impress with Ned Fitzpatrick (Providence, R.I.) and Tyrone Chinn (Derry, N.H.) providing 11 and 14 points respectively.
For the Fighting Scots, Junior Alex Daniel spearheaded Gordon's offense with 24 points, two rebounds and two assists.
How it Happened
The first half would see the Pride continuing to do what works well for them holding the Fighting Scots to just 22% shooting from beyond the arc. Rob Elliott (Willington, Conn.) would ignite the Pride's offense in the first half, dropping 11 points, he would also grab four rebounds on the defensive side. Once again being a spark off the bench would be recently named Regis athlete of the week Chinn as he added 7 of his own as well. The Pride would take a small lead into the half, 38-33
Gordon would trail Regis for most of the second half, with the Pride consistently maintaining a small but steady lead behind strong play by Harvey, who scored frequently at the rim, drew fouls, and converted key free throws. Midway through the half, Gordon went on several short runs, highlighted by fast-break layups, and back-to-back threes from Chiko Kalu to cut the deficit to just two points multiple times. Despite Gordon's effort to close the gap late, Regis responded. In the closing moments, Gordon had chances to tie or take the lead but missed key shots and committed late fouls. Regis sealed the game at the line, ultimately pulling away for a 77–73 victory.
