Strong First Half Not Enough as Men's Basketball Falls to Framingham, 84-71
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.-- The Regis men's basketball team was back in action tonight in a pre-Thanksgiving matchup with the Rams of Framingham State. The Rams would get the best of the Pride in this one, winning 84-71. The Pride would move to 5-2 on the season.
Jahkai Veal (Farmington, Conn.) provided a major spark off the bench, leading the Pride with 22 points (7–9 FG) and six assists. Aamyr Sullivan (Middletown, N.Y.) and Jamir Harvey added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Framingham State placed all five starters in double figures, with Domonick Victor pacing the Rams with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double. Dyree Rogers added a team-high 19 points in the win.
How it Happened
Tonight's game opened up with both teams struggling to score and trading turnovers. Framingham State struck first with a layup from Dyree Rogers, but Regis responded at the line with two free throws from Jamir Harvey. The Rams briefly surged ahead but the Pride responded out of a timeout as Ned Fitzpatrick came in and immediately provided a spark with a pair of jumpers and a three. The teams traded the lead until a Devon Reid (Queens, N.Y.) three put Regis ahead 24–20 with 8:20 remaining. Three minutes later, a burst from Aamyr Sullivan flipped the momentum even more as he buried back-to-back threes to stretch the Regis lead to 34–32 into the half.
Framingham State took control immediately out of the break, capitalizing on a series of Regis turnovers to spark a decisive momentum swing. With just under 12 minutes remaining, the Rams stretched the margin to as many as 15 before five straight points from Jahkai Veal pulled the Pride back within 10. Another Veal surge at the six-minute mark trimmed the deficit to 54–47. Despite late three-pointers from Sullivan and a 3-point burst from Veal that trimmed the margin to single digits at 62–71, Regis couldn't sustain the momentum. Regis continued to fight with Sullivan hitting another three but the early the deficit proved too costly to overcome as Framingham would take this one, 84-71.
Inside the Numbers
- Behind Veal's career-high 22 points and Ned Fitzpatrick's season-high 10, the Pride's bench outscored the Rams 37–5.
