WESTON, Mass. – Seventh year head coach Nate Hager, the reigning New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Coach of the Year, is thrilled to announce the 2013-14 game schedule for the Regis College men's basketball team. This season's schedule will feature 13 home games and nine non-conference opponents.
The Pride are one season removed from having made a run all the way to the NECC Championship game. Senior Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.), who scored 30 points in the title game en route to All-Tournament Team and NECC Honorable Mention Team honors, leads the group of Regis returners.
The Pride open up the season by hosting the Regis College Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 15 and 16, when they will welcome Fitchburg State, Western Conn., and Bowdoin. The Pride will play the tournament-opener against Fitchburg at 5 p.m. on Friday, while Western Conn. and Bowdoin will square off in the second game at 7 p.m. The winners of each game will meet in the Championship at 7 p.m. on Saturday, while the Consolation Game will take place at 5 p.m.
The following Tuesday, Regis will travel to Tufts for an 8 p.m. game before also traveling to Westfield State on Thursday for a 7 p.m. non-conference game. The Pride will be looking to avenge losses to the Jumbos and Owls last season.
Regis will wrap up the month of November by hosting a pair of non-league games on Nov. 23 and Nov. 26. They will host Wheaton (Mass.) at 1 p.m. on the 23rd before welcoming Eastern Nazarene on the 26th at 7 p.m.
An 8 p.m. away game against Lesley on Dec. 3 marks the NECC opener for the Pride, who went 11-5 in regular season conference play last year. Four days later, Regis will take on Daniel Webster on the road at 1 p.m. The Pride defeated the Eagles in all three meetings last season, including in the NECC First Round.
After a three week break, Regis will cap off December at the Tampa Bay Shootout on the 29th and 30th. The Crimson & Gold open the tournament against Kalamazoo at 7 p.m. on Sunday and will hope to face the winner of Drew and DePauw in the Championship game at 3 p.m. the next day.
The final non-conference game of the season will take place in Weston, Mass. on Jan. 2 against Worcester State. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
On Jan. 9, Regis returns to conference play at Becker (8 p.m.) before hosting Mitchell at 2 p.m. just two days later. On the 14th, the Pride will be away at Elms for a 5 p.m. matchup in what will be a rematch of the 2013 NECC title game, before hosting Southern Vermont on Jan. 18 at 2 p.m.
The team will face Newbury at 6 p.m. on the road on Jan. 21. Despite losing to the Nighthawks in their first meeting last year, the Pride were victorious in their second and third meetings, including the NECC Semifinals when Regis won a 66-59 overtime thriller.
The second league games against Lesley and Daniel Webster will take place at home at 3 p.m. on Jan. 25 and 7 p.m. on Jan. 28, respectively. The final game of January occurs at 8 p.m. on the 30th at Wheelock.
On Feb. 1 and 6, Regis hosts consecutive 7 p.m. home games against Becker and Elms, respectively. On the 12th, the Pride will make a trip up to Bennington, Vt. for a 7 p.m. contest with the Mountaineers before hosting Newbury three days later at 2 p.m. and Wheelock on the 18th at 7 p.m.
The final regular season game will be at Mitchell at 2 p.m. on Feb 22.
The NECC playoffs will kick off with the First Round on Feb 25. The NECC Semifinals are scheduled for Feb. 28 and the Championship is slated for March 1.
