Weston, Mass.-Looking to move up in The Commonwealth Coast Conference standings, Regis College would fall short Saturday evening losing to Wentworth Institute of Technology 77-69.
Wentworth senior Todd Doyle (Mystic, CT) would lead all scorers with 27 points. Doyle was an impressive 71 percent (10-of-14) from the floor. To note, Doyle shot 83 percent from the free throw line, and 66 percent from the three point line.
Contributing a double-double for the Leopards would be Matt Abbottt (Falmouth, Mass.) with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Ten of Abbott's rebounds would come on the defensive side.
Senior guard Kevin Wentworth (Ware, Mass.) added 15 points, and connected on 50 percent of his attempts from the floor. Rounding out Leopard scorers in double digits was Shane West (Saco, Maine) with 10.
Neither team led by more than eight points in the game until a jumper from Wentworth with 1:56 remaining would eventually open the a 12-7 run.
Left having to foul, Regis College would begin falling behind late in the game. Both teams played solid, but as the game progressed Wentworth would break the Regis College press for six easy points.
Regis College will host TCCC opponent Gordon College Feb. 4 at 7:30 pm. Wentworth will head to the University of New England.
