PRIDE RETURN TO NECC POSTSEASON AS SECOND SEED
After just missing the playoffs a season ago, the Regis College field hockey team has earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference Championships. The Pride (7-10, 5-1 NECC) will host No. 3 seed Elms College (5-13, 4-2) on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
WESTON, Mass. – After just missing the playoffs a season ago, the Regis College field hockey team has earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference Championships. The Pride (7-10, 5-1 NECC) will host No. 3 seed Elms College (5-13, 4-2) on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
Regis, the 2011 NECC Champions, went 5-1 in the NECC this season, including four-straight wins to end the season. The Pride improved upon a 2-4 mark from 2012 after just missing the playoffs on the final weekend of the year.
The Pride and Elms will meet for the second time in five days after the two teams met in the final regular season game of the year, a 2-1 victory for the Pride in double-overtime. Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.) scored in the opening minute of the second extra period to propel Regis to the win and the No. 2 seed.
Anna Maria (13-6, 6-0 NECC) earned the No. 1 seed for the second-straight season and will host Becker College (2-16, 2-4 NECC) on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. The AMCATS are the defending 2012 NECC Champions and also appeared in the 2011 championship match, a 3-1 loss to the Pride.
The AMCATS handed the Pride their only NECC setback of the season, a 1-0 defeat on October 8. The Pride are 1-0 against the other Semifinalist, Becker, after a 1-0 victory at the Hawks on October 5.
