Mark Clemente Begins Tenure as Director of Athletics at Regis College
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College officially welcomed a new era of leadership on Monday, June 8, 2026, as Mark Clemente assumed the role of Director of Athletics. Entering his 25th year as a member of the Regis Athletics community, Clemente brings more than two decades of experience and a deep understanding of the department, having served in a wide range of coaching, administrative, and leadership positions throughout his distinguished career.
Clemente will enter his 25th year within Regis Athletics and his 17th year in athletic administration, having built a career that has touched nearly every aspect of the department and campus community. From coaching and communications to facilities, operations, budgeting, and long-term planning, his progression through the ranks has provided him with a uniquely complete perspective on the student-athlete experience.
"I am humbled and grateful for my appointment as the sixth Director of Athletics at Regis College," said Clemente. "My 24 years at Regis have truly become my life's work, and I am completely dedicated to our mission and community in the spirit of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. I want to thank Dr. Antoinette Hays, Dr. Walt Horner, and the entire leadership team at Regis College for giving me this opportunity. I am forever indebted to Dean Pam Roecker for her mentorship and guidance in preparing me for this role over the past 10 years. I feel a strong sense of responsibility to provide our Regis student-athletes with a transformational and dignified experience in competition. I also look forward to deepening our integration within this exciting community, especially under the leadership of incoming President Dr. Robin Cautin. I am eager to work alongside our committed staff in developing each of our programs. This department has the talent, drive, and leadership to reach its full potential, and I have great confidence that our coaches will continue to push Regis Athletics forward. Together, we will continue building a special place, one that recognizes the contributions of alumni and tradition to create a program that reflects pride, connection, and shared purpose across our community."
Since 2013, Clemente has served as Associate Director of Athletics, overseeing the department's budget and business operations, event management and logistics, and all areas of facility management. He has supervised staff, directed home contests and championship events, and managed both day-to-day operations and long-term departmental growth. His leadership has been especially impactful in the development and stewardship of the college's multi-million dollar outdoor athletic complex, which has supported program expansion and competitive success across multiple sports.
Clemente has also been instrumental in guiding Regis Athletics through major institutional milestones, including the transition to co-education in 2007 and multiple conference affiliations, culminating in its current membership in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. His work has directly supported the addition and success of several varsity programs, including men's and women's lacrosse, men's soccer, men's tennis, and the continued rise of the track and field programs.
A driving force behind the department's financial growth, Clemente has led consistent fundraising efforts, most notably through the annual athletics golf tournament. Since assuming direct oversight in 2013, he and his committee have generated well over $500,000 in sponsorships and donor support, providing critical funding to sustain and elevate the Division III student-athlete experience. His oversight of capital projects has also contributed nearly $250,000 in facility enhancements, including locker room upgrades, expanded staff and student-athlete spaces, sports medicine improvements, and the addition of a varsity strength and conditioning facility.
Beyond athletics, Clemente remains deeply engaged across the Regis community. He plays an active role in major campus events such as Founders' Day and Regis Fest, and has led service initiatives aligned with the college's mission, including multiple international trips through Campus Ministry. In the classroom, he serves as a faculty member in the Health and Fitness Studies Program, teaching sports management courses and developing curriculum focused on legal issues in sport.
Clemente's career at Regis began in 2002 as both head women's soccer coach and the institution's first Sports Information Director. He led the women's soccer program for eight seasons, earned conference Coach of the Year honors, and later relaunched the women's lacrosse program. His wide-ranging experience across coaching, administration, facilities, fundraising, academics, and campus engagement reflects a career defined by versatility and sustained institutional impact.
Former Dean of Athletics Pam Roecker emphasized Clemente's lasting influence and readiness for leadership, stating, "He has built long-lasting campus-wide relationships, that are invaluable… he wholeheartedly believes in the mission of Regis College, he is dedicated to providing all current and future student-athletes with competitive and transformative experiences." She added, "he is more than ready for this challenge and the 20+ years of experience he has at Regis provides him with a wealth of historical knowledge, tradition and perspective that is impossible to replicate," and noted that she has "total confidence in Mark taking over" and in the continued success of Pride Athletics under his leadership.
Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, Walt Horner, also highlighted Clemente's impact and institutional fit, noting, "Mark's 20+ years of service and deep commitment to Regis make him the right leader at the right time. He understands our students, our culture, and what it takes to move Regis Athletics forward." Horner added that Clemente "leads with integrity, care, and a genuine passion for the Regis student experience," and emphasized his confidence that Clemente will build on the department's strong foundation while continuing its progression within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
A native of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Clemente holds a bachelor's degree in political science from St. Andrews College and a Juris Doctor from Roger Williams University School of Law. He and his wife Alisha reside in central Massachusetts, and Clemente is often found competing in age-group soccer both indoor and outdoor throughout the year.
