Reflecting on a Decade of Excellence: Dean Roecker's Regis Legacy
WESTON, Mass. – For the past decade, Pam Roecker has been a defining presence within the Regis College community, helping shape the identity, culture, and future of Pride Athletics through visionary leadership, unwavering positivity, and a steadfast belief in the educational value of athletics. After 10 years of dedicated service to Regis, Roecker will retire, with her final day on campus set for Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Before officially stepping into the role of Dean of Athletics, Roecker spent a year consulting with the department, beginning with what would become a 10-year commitment to Regis and its student-athletes, coaches, and staff. From the very beginning, she brought a clear philosophy centered on growth, relationships, and culture - principles that became the foundation of her tenure.
Roecker intentionally embraced the title of "Dean of Athletics," believing strongly that coaches are educators, and athletics is an extension of the classroom experience. Under her leadership, the department focused not only on competitive success, but on developing well-rounded student-athletes prepared for life beyond Regis. She championed the idea that athletics should educate, empower, and prepare students to become leaders in their professions and communities.
Throughout her time at Regis, Roecker emphasized the importance of personal branding and relationship-building, often reminding students and staff that success is not simply about "it's not who you know, it's who knows you and what do they think about you" She encouraged student-athletes to build meaningful connections, represent themselves and the institution with pride, and understand the lasting impact of professionalism and networking. Her lessons extended far beyond wins and losses, leaving a lasting impression on generations of Regis student-athletes.
That culture was also built around her trademark positivity. One of the phrases most associated with Roecker became "No Mopes Allowed" - meaning no negative attitudes, complaints, or excuses. She consistently encouraged those around her to approach challenges with optimism, energy, and solutions, helping foster a department culture rooted in accountability, resilience, and support for one another.
Under Roecker's direction, Regis Athletics experienced tremendous success both in and out of the playing arena. She guided the Pride through its transition into the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), while the department captured five conference championships during her tenure. Academically, Regis student-athletes thrived, with the Pride placing more than 100 student-athletes on the GNAC All-Academic Team in six consecutive years and leading the conference in honorees during both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years.
Walt Horner, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, reflected on Roecker's impact and legacy at Regis:
"We extend our deepest gratitude to Pam Roecker for her outstanding leadership and dedicated service to our student-athletes and institution. Pam's commitment to excellence, integrity, and the Division III philosophy has strengthened our athletics program and positively shaped the experience of countless student-athletes and coaches. As we celebrate her remarkable 40-year legacy as a coach and administrator, we thank her for the lasting impact she has made on Regis College and wish her nothing but success and happiness in retirement."
Beyond campus, Roecker continued to elevate the visibility of Regis through her nationally respected work as a women's basketball broadcaster. With more than two decades of experience across television and radio, she became a familiar voice on ESPN platforms, NESN, Fox, and Westwood One, while also serving as the lead analyst for Providence College women's basketball broadcasts.
While her accomplishments are extensive, Roecker's greatest legacy may be the culture she helped build within Regis Athletics - one centered on competitiveness, sportsmanship, academic success, leadership, and community.
During her final Athletic Awards Ceremony, Roecker reflected on the department she helped shape and the people who made it possible:
"A huge thank you to all of our current and former Pride student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and staff members for consistently performing at a level that makes Regis College proud. Specifically, I am proud of the strong culture we have built in Athletics in terms of competitiveness, sportsmanship, academic achievement, and leadership, while enhancing the overall vibrancy on our campus."
She also expressed gratitude for the colleagues and administrators who worked alongside her throughout her tenure, including incoming Director of Athletics Mark Clemente, and reflected on the athletics administration team that helped guide the department forward.
In one of her final messages to the Regis community, Roecker left student-athletes with words that encapsulated the philosophy she carried throughout her career:
"Honor yourselves by always trying to be the best you can be. Be fearless, be willing to take risks and challenge yourself, while approaching life with confidence."
As Pam Roecker prepares to retire, she leaves behind far more than championships and accolades. She leaves a lasting legacy of mentorship, positivity, professionalism, and belief in the transformative power of athletics. Her influence will continue to be felt throughout Regis College community for years to come.
