Regis Mourns Beloved SID, Jason Behenna
WESTON, Mass. — It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Regis College Sports Information Director, Jason Behenna.
Behenna was in the middle of his seventh year in Weston and the 25th year of his career in athletics communications.
Behenna was a ubiquitous presence at Regis athletic events and served as a mentor to countless Regis undergraduate and graduate students. His indelible contributions to the university have shaped the athletic and professional careers of innumerable student-athletes and all of our athletics programs. It goes without saying that he will be greatly missed by the Regis community.
A veteran collegiate sports information professional, he was revered throughout college athletics. Known for his kind and generous nature, Behenna was the consummate professional within his field and well-respected for his reliability and consistent work ethic. His leadership was celebrated and recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference when his fellow colleagues named Regis Sports Information as the 2022-23 GNAC Athletic Communications Staff of the Year. That same year, Behenna was honored with the Regis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Staff Appreciation Award for his "dedication and support to Regis College Athletics."
In 2019 and 2024 when Regis hosted the GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the conference turned to Behenna to manage all event operations. In addition, he was instrumental in managing the GNAC Swimming & Diving Championships from 2020 to 2023 as well as the GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
He was a professional in every sense of the word and a tireless fan of the Regis Pride, Boston teams, and the USC Trojans, his alma mater. During his tenure at Regis, the university earned an impressive 88 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections.
Behenna was a proud member of College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), serving on the organization's Academic All-America Core Committee since 2008.
Prior to his arrival at Regis, Behenna served as Director of Athletic Marketing and Communications for Castleton University after spending 10 years as the Sports Information Director at Seattle University, where he played a significant role in the University's ascension to Division I. He also made stops at Centenary College and the University of New Hampshire.
In addition, Behenna has served in various media roles for the NCAA Division I Men's Swimming & Diving Championship, the Women's Basketball Final Four, the Women's Ice Hockey Frozen Four and a number of Professional Golf Association Tour events.
A Massachusetts native, Behenna graduated from the University of Southern California, featuring the prestigious Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in print journalism and political science in 1996.
To honor Jason's legacy, Regis has chosen to support the Dear Neighbor Fund, encouraging donations to aid students facing emergency financial challenges. Established in 2010, this fund reflects the generosity of the Regis College community and is sustained entirely by contributions and fundraising efforts, ensuring ongoing support for those in need.
