Regis College Athletics Hosts Academic Excellence Ceremony
WESTON, Mass. – In celebration of NCAA Division III Week, the Regis College athletics department hosted the annual Academic Excellence Ceremony, recognizing the accomplishments of Pride student-athletes in the classroom, Tuesday, April 5, in the College Hall Foyer on campus.
Sophomore, junior, senior, and graduate student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and above are invited to the annual ceremony highlighting their academic work. This year, a school-record 135 student-athletes were honored with invitations to the event, posting an average GPA of 3.62.
Erin Loehner '18 was the keynote speaker at this year's presentation and conveyed certain steps student-athletes can take to continue to succeed both at Regis and after graduation, using her experiences as examples. Loehner played on both the soccer and lacrosse teams at Regis, receiving 2018 Second Team All-GNAC honors in lacrosse as well as GNAC All-Sportsmanship recognition in both soccer and lacrosse during her senior year of 2017-18.
Laura Ladino, Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator, hosted the ceremony and was joined in the speaking program by Elizabeth Conant, Faculty Athletic Representative; Walt Horner, Dean of Student Affairs; and Pam Roecker, Dean of Athletics. Regis College President Dr. Antoinette Hays attended the event, as did several faculty and staff members that are part of the team mentoring program.
According to the NCAA, "Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with a Division III institution to observe and celebrate the impact athletics and student-athletes have on campus and in the surrounding community." The annual Regis College Academic Excellence Ceremony is an outreach activity involving academic accomplishment, one of three spotlighted categories during NCAA Division III Week along with athletic experience and leadership/community service/campus involvement.
Regis College is a Division III member of the NCAA competing within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in 20 intercollegiate sports. The student-athletes invited to the Academic Excellence Ceremony are listed below.
