REGIS SELECTED PRESEASON FAVORITE IN NECC POLL
Regis College has been selected to finish in first place in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference women’s basketball season, as determined by a vote conducted by the coaches of the league.
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College has been selected to finish in first place in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball season, as determined by a vote conducted by the coaches of the league. The Pride, who will be looking to avenge a loss in the NECC Semifinals last year, topped the poll with 98 points and eight of the possible 10 first place votes.
Regis returns three starters from last year's squad, which finished the year at 21-6 (18-0 NECC). The Pride will look to Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine), a first team all-conference honoree last season, for leadership. The junior forward led the conference last year after averaging 60% from the field.
The defending NECC champions, Elms College, came in at second in the polls after picking up 86 points and the other two first place votes. Newbury, Daniel Webster, and Becker round out the top five with 80 points, 61 points, and 59 points, respectively.
Mitchell finished the poll in sixth place after receiving 54 points, while Bay Path came in at seventh with 42 points. Southern Vermont, Wheelock, and Lesley received the bottom three spots in the poll, respectively.
