Men's Lacrosse Falls to USJ in Weekend Tilt
WESTON, Mass. -- The Regis men's lacrosse team was back in action today, taking on the Blue Jays of Saint Joseph's in another Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The Pride would not be able to keep up offensively falling 19-7. With the loss, the Pride's record falls to 3-4, 2-3 in GNAC play.
Nick Klein continued his recent form putting away four goals in the contest.
For USJ, Nick Pestrichello would provide five goals and three assists.
How It Happened
The first half was competitive early, but Saint Joe's gradually took control behind strong faceoff play and efficient offense. USJ struck first on a goal from Freeman Johnson and quickly capitalized on a man-up opportunity as Brady Stevens doubled the lead. The Pride responded with a man-up goal from Nick Klein and later again on a Jack Jaynes finish off a Matt Cabassa assist, making it 3–2. However, the Blue Jays maintained pressure with consistent wins at the faceoff X from Benjamin Bausch and timely scoring, carrying a 3–2 edge late in the first before opening things up in the second quarter. A flurry of goals from Nick Pestrichello and Brenden Tedeschi helped USJ build separation, and despite a couple of answers from Klein, USJ entered halftime firmly in control, leading 10–4.
USJ put the game out of reach in the second half with a dominant offensive surge. A quick man-up goal from Dominic Oakes opened the third quarter, and although Regis answered with a Jack Jaynes tally, USJ responded immediately and never allowed momentum to shift. In the fourth quarter, USJ continued to pour it on while capitalizing on penalties. Regis managed a late man-down goal from Jaynes, but the deficit proved too large as USJ closed out a commanding 19–7 victory.
